"Octapus's Garden 2" is a whimsical 3Dglossy artwork that is a fusion of painting and sculpture. I upcycle the paint drips and puddles which drip from my fluid abstract paintings; I form this "studio debris" into 3D paint sculptures which I mount on a painted surface. The process is part serendipity and part artistic vision. The Beatles song "Octapus's Garden" on Yellow Submarine was the inspiration for this artwork.
My technique of pouring and mixing paint directly on a canvas is a way of connecting with the essence of fluidity. My work is part artistic vision and part serendipity, a fusion of forethought and randomness. I carefully capture any paint or resin which has overflowed and pooled beneath my boards and canvas and upcycle them into new 3D sculptural paintings.
