Earth Day 2018 April 22 is dedicated to providing the inspiration and information needed to change our use and disposal of plastic. Plastic pollution is poisoning our oceans. "Oceans of Plastic" is a 3D artwork created from my studio debris: leftover acrylic paint for the ocean underpainting and the acrylic paint that dripped from my larger abstract paintings for the floating plastic island.
My technique of pouring and mixing paint directly on a canvas is a way of connecting with the essence of fluidity. My work is part artistic vision and part serendipity, a fusion of forethought and randomness. I carefully capture any paint or resin which has overflowed and pooled beneath my boards and canvas and upcycle them into new 3D sculptural paintings.
