Artist's Description

Winter Pond 2 2010 is a watercolour painting from Madeleines exhibition, Art in the Garden 2010: Stephen Chans Feng Shui Garden, in Edmonton, was both the inspiration and the venue for the art show. Stephen leaves his goldfish outside in a heated pond over the winter. The scene has a magical look to it because it is so surprising to see fish swimming alongside steep banks of snow, but that is how his pond looked after a heavy snowfall in December with the temperature minus 20 degrees Celsius.
Madeleine explores the complexity and interplay of the features that give balance, harmony and energy to the Feng Shui Garden.

About Madeleine Arnett

Madeleine Arnett

My technique of pouring and mixing paint directly on a canvas is a way of connecting with the essence of fluidity. My work is part artistic vision and part serendipity, a fusion of forethought and randomness. I carefully capture any paint or resin which has overflowed and pooled beneath my boards and canvas and upcycle them into new 3D sculptural paintings.
